With the debut of “The Great Gatsby” in theaters this month, hotels around the globe want guests to experience the film beyond the big screen with Gatsby-inspired packages.
At The Plaza in New York, guests can stay in the new Fitzgerald Suite designed by Catherine Martin, the costume designer, production designer and co-producer of the new film. The 700-sq.-ft. suite captures the spirit of the film and Fitzgerald, as well as the look of the 1920s, with the bedspread and towels embroidered with Jay Gatsby-and Daisy-inspired monogram; images of Fitzgerald and his wife, Zelda, hanging on the walls; bookshelves filled with all of Fitzgerald’s work; a Mayfair Steamer desk; and a 3D TV.
“The Fitzgerald Suite at The Plaza is a suite that F. Scott Fitzgerald and his character Jay Gatsby would be at home in—a dramatic deco space that evokes the danger, the sexiness, the glamour and a certain nostalgia for the hedonistic days of the 1920s, while still encapsulating all the comforts expected at The Plaza,” says designer Catherine Martin.
In addition to the suite, The Plaza is featuring a display in its Fifth Avenue Foyer with the costumes worn by the characters in the film for the scene that takes place at the hotel. The Caudalie Vinotherapie Spa is also offering treatments, paying hommage to the film with its Caudalie Grape Gatsby Treatments with names like Apres Fete and Joie de Vivre.

For your clients in Florida, the 361-room The Renaissance Vinoy Resort & Golf Club in St. Petersburg, is offering the Roaring 20s Experience now through the end of May. Guests will get in the Gatsby spirit while seeing sites around town on a carriage ride tour complete with prohibition cocktails and a picnic. The property, which features the Vanderbilt Mansion, 15 historic cottages, courtyard villas and jr. suites, and is in the final stages of a $60 million transformation of the hotel and mansion.
