uma ubud A Balinese honeymoon offers all the ancient charm of Indonesia wrapped neatly in a blanket of romance. The Uma Ubud, another Como property, opened seven years ago to become an immediate hit. It’s the collection’s second island retreat and is a place of serenity in an inspiring, culturally rich location. Newlyweds are treated like Indonesian royalty, receiving breakfast in bed, complimentary wine, 3-course candlelit dinners either in the privacy of their room or in the excellent Kemiri dining room, 2-hour spa treatments, tours of Ubud and guided walks through the fabled Bali countryside consisting of emerald rice terraces. It could serve as a model for other honeymoon havens if other such resorts sat on the fringes of Ubud, the Balinese town overlooking the Tjampuhan Valley in a spot carved out of a hillside and surrounded by coconut palms and banyan trees. There are orchids everywhere. Adding to the romantic atmosphere, a river runs below and soft breezes blow from the mountains. This is a place full of serenity and the only sound one hears is the singing of birds and the singsong tones of villagers. The spa specializes in treatments that underline spiritual and physical well-being through yoga and Balinese massages. Couples will also delight in the cultural activities organized by Uma Ubud, including comprehensive visits to Ubud’s temples, galleries and museums, mountain biking, white-water rafting, volcano tours and guided hikes through Bali’s undiscovered hills.

Rates for luxury rooms cost $1,090 per night dbl—depending on the season—but can be as low as $820 dbl for a terrace room. The resort is made up of only 27 rooms and a suite is considered the most elegant accommodation on that side of the island.
