Azura Retreats, the company that owns and manages luxury boutique hotels in Mozambique, has announced that it will expand into Tanzania as of June 1.

Azura Selous Game Reserve will be the first of three potential new projects to open, with the second property in the works for Zimbabwe, as well as two island-based beach hotels in Tanzania. Azura will be refurbishing Amara Selous, an existing high end property on the banks of the Ruaha River. The 12 luxury tented suites, each with a private pool and river views, will be upgraded to reflect Azura’s boutique-chic styling, as well as Azura’s standards of cuisine, hosting and the “wow” experiences the property is known for. Guests of Azura will enjoy a bush and beach combination with Azura Quilalea Private Island easily accessible from the Selous property, one of the largest game reserves in Africa, which is a 30 minute flight from Dar es Salaam. Walking safaris will be a highlight for adult guests, and it will be the only camp in the Selous to accept children under 12 with a special kids program to educate them on the bush, teach them tracking skills, and how to fish in the river.

The 12 tented rooms are spread over an area of 1,399 sq. ft, indoor stone bathrooms, chandeliered dressing areas, outside showers and large terraces with plunge pools. The tents are also equipped with stone floors and air conditioning to help keep the tents cool during the hotter months.

The property also offers a large decked area and infinity pool that overlooks the rapids of the Great Ruaha River, as well as the resident hippos. There are also open-sided dinning and lounging areas. Dining locations will vary daily with the romantic set-ups that Azura has become known for. Rates start at $600 pp per night during the low season of June, Sept-Dec. 19, and Jan 8-March 31, plus $75 pp per night for park fees. Azura Selous is now offering guests four nights for the price of three through March 31, 2015, which is a total of $1,800 pp during the low season and $2,100 pp during high season. Price includes lodging in air-conditioned tented suites, all meals and drinks (except champagne), all game drives and activities, all laundry, return transfers from the Sumbazi airstrip, and WiFi access. For more information, visit azura-retreats.com or contact[email protected].
