“Sanctuaries of contemporary style, the spacious staterooms and suites aboard Crystal Serenity—most with private verandah—are designed to be an indulgent home-away-from-home as you explore the world.”

That’s how Crystal Cruises describes its 1,070-person ship, the Crystal Serenity. And when the company says “explore the world,” it’s not joking. Three themed cruises are gearing up to take the Crystal Serenity from Los Angeles to Rome in just over six weeks.

From April 21-May 8, the ship will host a collection of film and theater personalities during a Film & Theatre Festival trans-canal passage cruise from Los Angeles to New York. Hollywood and Broadway are both highlighted on this cruise, with seven theme performances and entertainment features, plus 12 performers, lecturers and celebrity personalities on board to give guests a personal account of life in the spotlight. Themed on-board events will include a Tea Time Costume Show, Matinee Movies at The Screening Room including post-film discussions, and a performance of “Hollywood Revisited—A Tribute in Costume and Song.” Rates start at $5,245 pp dbl.

Then, the Serenity will travel from New York to London from May 8-24 during an NFL Legends cruise to include football greats such as coach Don Shula, Super Bowl MVP Larry Csonka, referee Jim Tunney and coach Dick Vermeil. Each expert is scheduled to host individual sessions, during which they’ll share their personal experiences on the field, before getting together for an Ocean Views discussion to share their opinions and predictions for the next season. In addition to a question and answer session, audience members can use newly introduced individual electronic polling devices to weigh-in on topics as they’re discussed. Rates start at $5,055 pp dbl.

And May 24-June 5 will have foodies in paradise as they travel from London to Rome, sampling the Japanese-Peruvian fusion of master chef Nobu Matsuhisa first hand along the way. Acting as executive chef during this Bordeaux and Beyond sailing, Matsuhisa will treat guests to special add-on dinners and explanations of each course, as well as host cooking demonstrations, book signings and meet-and-greet opportunities. More big names for this cruise include sake master Fumio Hazu, chef Heinz Beck, mixologist Tony Abou-Ganim and master sommelier Bob Bath, all hosting tastings and demonstrations. Rates start at $3,995 pp dbl.

Each stateroom aboard the Crystal Serenity has wireless Internet access, direct-dial ship-to-shore phones with voicemail, flat-screen TVs with DVD and CD players, cable TV channels and a stocked refrigerator.
