Provider of luxury super-small-ship hotel barge cruises, European Waterways has been busy upgrading its fleet with new onboard perks and enhanced amenities.
Over the 2012 season, more than $400,000 was spent on enhancements for the fleet that include new linens, jacuzzis, sofas and flooring. All barges now offer bicycles for guest use while in port, and many offer tandem bikes or a Biking Plus option, which provides mapped out routes or backpacks for longer rides. Additionally, many ships now feature telescopes for nighttime stargazing, and most ships feature free WiFi Internet access. And in France, the company has acquired a fleet of Mercedes minibuses to take guests exploring over land in style.
Ships also feature dedicated experiences, which vary by destination. Aboard the Scottish Highlander, for example, guests will enjoy the music of a traditional bagpiper, while sailing through Burgundy on the L’Impressioniste provides guests the option of taking a hot air balloon ride for a bird’s-eye view of the area’s vineyards.
European Waterways’ hotel barges accommodate up to 32 guests, offering cruises in France, Italy, Scotland, Ireland, England, Germany, Belgium, Holland and Luxembourg. Charter rates range from about $16,000 to $71,000, depending on season and number of guests. Individual cabin rates are available on certain itineraries, with rates ranging from about $3,800 pp dbl to $6,900 pp dbl. For more information, call (877) 879-8808 or visit gobarging.com.
