Travelers roam through Rome on Perillo Tours’ new itinerary, which celebrates Pope Francis I’s declaration of 2016 as the Holy Year of Mercy. The 8-day Rome Jubilee tour, starting at $1,995 pp dbl, explores the basilicas, chapels, papal residences and gardens famous to the Eternal City as well as the Vatican City.

While in Rome, guests have the opportunity to visit an old Jewish ghetto and the Castelli Romani (fortified villages that once served as summer residences of the Pope and noblemen). In the Vatican City, guests meander across the Papal gardens and embark on semi-private tours of the Vatican Museum and the Sistine Chapel. At St. Peter’s Basilica, guests can view famous works, such as Gian Lorenzo Bernini’s baldacchino (great canopy) and Michelangelo’s marble Pieta statue, before taking an excursion to the Roman catacombs (underground cemeteries). During the last stop, guests witness cardinals preaching during a Roman Papal Audience. Meals include a light lunch, accompanied by wine, at the Fontana Condida Resturant/Winery in Monte Porzio and dinner at Trastavere, a Roman district and nightlife destination. Travel dates run from March 2016 to October 2016. Tours include six nights at first class and deluxe hotels, airport transfers, daily buffet breakfast, two lunches, and two dinners, plus English-speaking tour guides, wine tasting, a vineyard tour, and a cooking class.
