Acapulco on the Rise – Again

written by | Posted on November 1st, 2010

Yet another grand debut this year? Banyan Tree Cabo Marques, which opened in April with 47 all-pool villas perched on stilts looking out to sea. With private timber sundecks and a Mexico-meets-Asia design, the villas are one of Acapulco’s most coveted stays. The resort is offering a Romance Getaway package starting at $2,305 for a 2-night stay for two in an Oceanfront-View Pool Villa, good for bookings through Dec. 19.

trends by the bay As multi-faceted as the destination is, the year-round appeal of Acapulco keeps branching out to offer more options. According to the Acapulco Marketing Destination Office, a new trend has emerged in travel to the city: volunteering while honeymooning, or (gasp) “honeyteering.” Couples enjoying their time in the sun can take part in the protection and release of baby Golfina turtles from different resorts that have developed turtle camps, including the Fairmont Acapulco Princess and the Fairmont Pierre Marques. They can also sign up to help protect the diverse wildlife and species of the freshwater Tres Palos Lagoon, located between the Acapulco International Airport and Puerto Marques.

Another trend? There are always unbeatable deals in Acapulco from the likes of GOGO Worldwide Vacations. A 4-night vacation at the Fiesta Americana Villas Acapulco, for instance, starts as low as $539 pp dbl—including airfare—when booked through GOGO by Dec. 28 for travel through Jan. 8. You’ll also find similar deals at the Fairmont Pierre Marques, Las Brisas and others in the destination.

Even the Acapulco Marketing Destination Office’s free virtual training program for agents, Acapulco Academy, has gotten its own facelift in recent months. Its two sections, the “Study Course” and “Study Guide,” now feature a focus on new luxury properties and other updated visitor information. Graduates of this learning tool receive continuing education credits from The Travel Institute that count toward the designation of “Certified Travel Counselor,” as well as consumer leads and other info. There’s a FAM coming up Dec. 1-4.
