punta de mita Tucked away in the Riviera Nayarit portion of Banderas Bay, Punta de Mita’s jungle-and-beach combo is best savored raw yet with a bit of indulgence at Imanta Resort. The feel here is that of being in a private island, with just verdant exuberance, cackling birds and the roaring ocean nearby—clients can walk for hours among the foliage or enjoy the resort’s private beach and see just a few others at most.

Imanta also offers a team of “Integrative Health” experts that put together a customized program for each guest and may include everything from kayak outings to a jungle booth camp. Of course, clients can partake of any of these activities—or horseback riding, whale watching and more—without signing up for any wellness program. And as is a “must” for any romantic vacation, couple’s spa offerings are plentiful, offered right on the beach, in the jungle or in-suite; these locations are also idyllic for a private dinner. They can also escape to the top of the resort’s observatory and enjoy breakfast, drinks or dinner with bird’s-eye views of their surroundings and the freshest ingredients and seafood available—perhaps even fish they’ve caught themselves that day.

Each oceanview, 1-bedroom casa comes with a private pool, while the casonas add expansive living areas and rooms. Rates start at $1,000 per night. A honeymoon package starts at $1,200 per night through Dec. 15 and includes the third night free, daily breakfast, a romantic dinner and two hour-long massages.

ixtapa Both laid-back and well developed, Ixtapa has managed to stay true to its roots while expanding its offerings for travelers. Its small-town feel has gone a step higher with nearby Capella Ixtapa, which in turn has found an ideal location from which to boast spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean, elevating understated oceanfront luxury through the most minute of details.

Since the resort has been fashioned on the side of a cliff, clients are taken to their room on a cable car. Each room has its own plunge pool and local artwork on its walls. Each day at 5 p.m., cold beer, fresh guacamole and chips are delivered to their room—perhaps to be enjoyed by the plunge pool. And when they’re not holed up in their love nest, they might want to chill out by the sea with cucumber margaritas or arrange a romantic dinner close to the beach, with waves crashing by and a trio crooning away. Nearby, they can enjoy scuba diving, sport fishing or golfing.

Rates start at $650 per night for an oceanview room; a penthouse suite is available from $1,250. A 7-night honeymoon package in a jr. or penthouse suite includes private airport transfers, daily breakfast, a couple’s spa treatment, a new Flip camera so they can document their stay, a horseback ride or sunset cruise and a complimentary night with champagne for each anniversary, among other perks. Additionally, the newlyweds’ moms are mailed a special gift while the couple is away. The 7-night package starts at $4,550.
