In our coverage of Miami’s hotel scene, we bring you onsite reviews and updates of the city’s finest accommodations to help you put your clients in the right environment. We detail the properties and their amenities, spa, renovations and the like, but we realize some Miami-bound guests are in it for the pool scene. So here, as part of on-going hotel pool-only reviews, we bring you W South Beach’s pool scene. And since summer is right around the corner, look for even more hotel pool reviews in coming months.

Set Up:  The W South Beach boasts two pools; we made our home cabana #9, mere steps to the beautiful and big infinity pool. We were greeted by one of the W’s WET and Beach Insiders; yes the W takes its backyard very seriously. The W’s direct beach access provided an opportunity to take a stroll on the beach easily.

Our Insider, Shana (loved her) showed us to our cabana, which makes for perfect base camp whether spending the day by the pool, or as an entertainment venue for small groups. We really liked the WOW cabana (it was akin to having double-wide envy) but for just the two of us, we were more than comfy. We were given lounges close by, and talk about attentive, we hadn’t yet slipped off our cover-ups and our beverage orders were taken. Inside our cabana we had a refrigerator filled with bottled water and a flat-screen TV that provided some entertainment during our nap when it started raining.

Poolside Dining & Wining: The WET Bar and Grille is the outdoor restaurant that provides poolside service. We especially liked the Sunday Morning Remedy, a bloody Mary served with wasabi-dusted olives.

Standout Dish: We chose to go protein only since stuffing our faces while wearing bikinis started to present a problem; the shrimp cocktail and tuna tartare were not only delicious but seemingly prevented previous poolside review bloat.

Poolside Service: The W staff is attentive and professional.

Who Belongs: Everyone actually.

Volume: Perfect volume and upbeat music; we couldn’t help dancing in our lounges when some good oldies (80’s) tunes were playing.

Who’s In:  Only guests of the hotel. The cabanas rent for $350 per day; the WOW cabana is $550.

Package it: If guests book one of the 26 VIP SuitesE-WOW Penthouse, E-WOW, WOW, Penthouse, Marvelous, Cool Corner and Sensational Suites—they’ll be assigned an exclusive W Insider VIP Concierge who is assigned to each guest to assist with planning every aspect of their stay. The W Insider VIP Concierge can make reservations at the hottest restaurants, secure admission to exclusive nightclubs and events, book spa appointments, coordinate boat rentals, personal shopping, and coordinate any WET Deck or waterspouts activities, among other services.
