During a press conference at the Manhattan Cruise Terminal in New York City, Crystal Cruises announced its plans to restore the SS United States into a modern luxury cruise ship. In order to accomplish this task, Crystal Cruises has partnered with national nonprofit organization the SS United States Conservancy to bring the ship into compliance with the latest standards, and return the historic vessel to ocean-going service as a part of the cruise line’s expanding fleet. The revitalized United States by Crystal Cruises ship will feature 400 luxurious suites around 350 sq. ft. in size, dining, entertainment, spa and other luxury guest amenities, plus elements of the original SS United States such as the Promenade and the Navajo Lounge, as well as new engines and updated marine technology. Additionally, Crystal Cruises is considering new itineraries for the ship, including traditional transatlantic voyages from New York City, cruises from key U.S. ports and international voyages around the globe.
