The 2012 Cherry Blossom Festival commemorates the 100th anniversary of the date that the Mayor of Tokyo presented the city of Washington, D.C. with 3,000 Yoshino cherry trees as a “memorial of national friendship between the United States and Japan.” During its five weeks of festivities, the festival will promote traditional and contemporary arts and culture, natural beauty and community spirit through a variety of events.
