Loews Coronado Bay Resort

Loews Coronado Bay Resort’s Voga Voyage package, inclusive of a couple’s massage and gondola ride, helps set the property’s Sea Spa apart from other spas.

Coronado, California, just a few miles from the go-go-go possibilities of San Diego, offers some of the best and most relaxing beaches that the area has to offer, and taking those opportunities for relaxation just a step further are some pretty indulgent wellness spas.

Spa at The Del – Hotel del Coronado
Iconic on the Coronado coastline, Hotel del Coronado has been accommodating guests for more than 120 years. After playing host to 11 presidents, the Prince of Wales, and famous legends such as Thomas Edison, Babe Ruth and Charles Lindburgh, it’s easy to see why the property would invest in such fabulous spa amenities.

Within its 21 treatment rooms, guests of Spa at The Del can enjoy a host of cleansing, healing, detoxifying and invigorating treatments. Hydrotherapy tubs, steam rooms, relaxation rooms and a Pacific-view terrace with infinity pool are also available to guests of the spa.

Spa at The Del welcomes teens as well as adults, with packages such as the Teen Spa Sundae ($200). Plus, through Aug. 30, Spa at The Del will host a Spa Soiree every Thursday for all ages, where guests enjoy a 20 percent savings on any 50 minutes or longer treatment, a hand or foot treatment on the terrace for $15, plus a complimentary glass of wine or champagne.

Combining accommodations, relaxation and fantastic cuisine, the Girlfriends Getaway package makes for the ideal girls-only vacation. For $455 per night (minimum two nights) two guests will enjoy a 50-minute spa treatment each along with a $50 daily dining credit, which can be used at any of the property’s five food and beverage destinations. Sea Spa – Loews Coronado Bay Resort
With three tennis courts; three pools; bike, rollerblade, jet ski and sailboat rentals; surfing and stand-up paddle lessons and 80-slip marina, the 439-room Loews Coronado Bay Resort seems like the perfect fitness-lover’s paradise. But this time around, it’s the Sea Spas’ more relaxing aura that’s drawing us in.

That’s where guests go after an active day in the sun, as the Sea Spa provides a full-service beauty salon, sauna, steam rooms, relaxation lounge, and spa patio with jacuzzi. The Sea Spa fitness center offers a variety of yoga and fitness classes in addition to its gym, and 15 treatment areas provide private service for facials, massages and body treatments.

Of the spa’s signature treatments, the Signature Island Love Ritual Body Therapy ($230) caught our eye the quickest. For 80 relaxing minutes, guests enjoy a Balinese massage with jasmine-scented oil, followed by a rice and turmeric scrub, and warm yogurt application. The treatment is finished with a jasmine-scented shower and jasmine-scented lotion application.

Couples, however, might opt for a romantic gondola ride spa with the Signature Voga Voyage ($400 dbl), which features an hour’s ride along the river, and includes a sunscreen application and 40-minute massage followed by complimentary champagne and chocolate-covered strawberries.

Rates at Loews Coronado Bay Resort start at $159 per night. For more information, call (800) 235-6397 or visit loewshotels.com/coronadobay.

Spa Coronado – Coronado Island Marriott Resort & Spa
Right on the beach of “the island,” Coronado Island Marriott Resort & Spa offers three heated pools, two restaurants, beach-elegant accommodations and topping it all, Spa Coronado.

Facilities here feature six elegant treatment rooms, men’s and women’s dry saunas, a 75-ft. lap pool and fitness center. A wealth of treatment options span mani’s & pedi’s, our favorite of which Double Happiness Manicure & Pedicure (45 minutes, $100); massages, such as the Hot Stone Therapy (60 minutes, $135); and exfoliating body wraps, like the Lemon Sugar Body Polish treatment (60 minutes, $135).

Package options at Spa Coronado include the nearly 6-hour Day at the Beach package, inclusive of body scrub or body wrap, Coronado Custom Massage, Coronado Custom Facial, Ultimate Pedicure and lunch at the spa ($450), and the 2-hour, 15-minute Relaxation by the Bay, which sticks to the essentials with the Coronado Custom Massage and Coronado Custom Facial ($230).
