With North America’s impressive list of top-notch golf resorts, it’s always tough to pin-point just a few, but that’s exactly what we did for our May issue, which is dedicated to top golf resorts not only in North America, but also in the Caribbean,  Bermuda and Mexico. Herewith is a “light bite,” shall we say, of golf resorts we love in North America; for the “full course,” check out the May issue feature on North America golf resorts.

casa palmero
The Property:
The Mediterranean-style Casa Palmero, one of three hotels at Pebble Beach Resorts in California, is intimacy at its best. This estate property features only 24 rooms—including the 1,500-sq.-ft. Palmero Suite—each with wood burning fireplaces, oversized soaking tubs and sumptuous beds. Taking a peek out of those rooms, guests will find sun-drenched patios overflowing with greenery and bougainvillea. And golf aficionados will love that it overlooks the first and second fairways of Pebble Beach Golf Links.
The Greens:
Speaking of links, having been a five-time host of the U.S. Open, Pebble Beach Golf is in a class by itself. Jack Nicklaus himself has said that if he had “only one more round to play, I would choose to play it at Pebble Beach.” There are five courses here: the oceanside, 18-hole, par 72 Pebble Beach Golf Links, open since 1919; the 18-hole par 72 Spyglass Hill Golf Course; the 18-hole par 72 The Links at Spanish Bay, a “true Scottish links course”; the 18-hole par 72 Del Monte Golf Course, open since 1897; and the 9-hole par 27 Peter Hay Golf Course.
The Amenities:
The 22,000-sq.-ft., full-service Spa at Pebble Beach is nestled in the heart of Del Monte Forest, adjacent to Casa Palmero and offers, of course, a Post-Golf Therapy treatment. Because Casa Palmero is part of a larger complex, guests have access to myriad dining choices. An added plus is The Beach & Tennis Club, set upon the Stillwater Cove in Pebble Beach and offering tennis and sailing, among other activities. The Scene: Think personal valet for assisting guests in making dinner reservations, golf tee times and spa treatments; breakfast baskets delivered to the room each morning; daily en-suite fresh flowers; and complimentary cocktails served every evening. Adding to the elegance are a library and a billiard room. And for travelers who like to explore beyond the fairways, 17-Mile Drive runs through Pacific Grove to Pebble Beach, from the Pacific coastline to Del Monte Forest.
The Rates:
The 3-night Stay, Play & Spa package with accommodations at Casa Palmero includes one round on Pebble Beach Golf Links; one round on The Links at Spanish Bay; and one round on Spyglass Hill Golf Course; and three 50-minute spa treatments. Rates start at $4,495.

the lodge at ventana canyon
The Property:
Sitting against the backdrop of the Santa Catalina Mountains, The Lodge at Ventana Canyon in Tucson offers just 50 suites with full kitchens, large bathrooms, plush bathrobes, and private patios or balconies. The top-end of the accommodations selection, however, are the 1,500-sq.-ft. home-like 2-bedroom, 2-story loft suites, with a charming spiral staircase.
The Greens:
Designed by Tom Fazio, the Mountain and Canyon courses offer a natural desert golf experience at the foothills of the Santa Catalina Mountains, surrounded by lush, native Sonoran desert vegetation and spotted with majestic saguaro cacti and featuring changes in elevation and large rolling greens.
The Amenities:
All of the finer amenities typical of a golf-focused resort come out to play here, including a top-notch spa, clubhouse-style dining, 11 tennis courts, an Olympic-sized pool and AAA four-diamond service.
The Scene:
Hiking is the name of the game here with the Ventana Canyon Trail, where there is a natural rock window for which the area is named. Or, guests can hike one of the many trails at Sabino Canyon State Park. There’s even a special treat for those with the opportunity to walk in the desert after it rains, when the chapparal give off an enticing aroma. There’s also Arizona’s second largest city at the resort’s doorstep.
The Rates:
The property offers customized golf vacations.
