There are travelers and then there are those with a true case of wanderlust, the voyagers who long to spend weeks—even months—discovering exotic destinations. And it is precisely this type of traveler that inspired Silversea Cruises to create a brand-new series of 20 Grand Voyages for 2012.
Designed exclusively for the traveler who relishes a more leisurely pace with plenty of time to explore, this special collection offers extended voyages from 24 to 64 days. These unique odysseys combine the luxury of sailing aboard intimate, elegant ships with expanded journeys to diverse regions of the world, featuring visits to must-see traditional ports, as well as exotic destinations that are off the beaten path.
“Our Grand Voyages are perfectly suited to the traveler who has the time and passion to indulge in travel on a grand scale,” says Steve Tucker, Silversea’s v.p. of field sales for North America. “These voyages offer an authentic immersive travel experience, the time to develop lasting friendships with like-minded travelers, and the convenience of visiting dozens of destinations while unpacking only once.”
On the 53-day Safaris & Mediterranean Sun Coasts voyage aboard the Silver Wind, for instance, guests travel from Cape Town to Istanbul (departs Feb. 3), sailing around the southern tip of Africa and northward along the continent’s Atlantic coast to the Mediterranean. Throughout the journey, guests will visit a total of 15 countries, including exotic Mozambique and Morocco. They’ll also have a chance to enjoy such marquee cities as Monte Carlo, Rome and Athens. Other highlights include a 2-night stay in Barcelona and overnight visits in Richards Bay, Walvis Bay and Livorno (Florence). Rates start at $22,976 pp.
Meanwhile, the Silver Shadow will depart Dec. 11 on a 24-day Grand Asia & Australia voyage from Hong Kong to Sydney with calls in Vietnam, Singapore, Indonesia and Australia. Highlights include an overnight stay in Ho Chi Minh City. Fares start at $10,787 pp.
“We review the attractions offered by each port, the opportunities for inland tours and overnight stays that will give our guests the chance to have a more in-depth and meaningful encounter with a region’s culture, cuisine and heritage,” notes Tucker. “With a fleet of small ships,” he adds, “we can call in the most remote destinations and dock in ports that are inaccessible to larger ships, such as Shanghai, which has a bridge that is so low it keeps many tall cruise ships from sailing up the Huangpu River to dock in the heart of the city, and Ho Chi Minh City, which is accessed by a winding river that large ships cannot navigate.”
The grandest of all voyages and in a class all its own, is Silversea’s World Cruise 2012. On Jan. 6, Silver Whisper will embark guests in Fort Lauderdale for a 115-day cruise around the world, concluding in Monte Carlo. On this exciting odyssey, guests will visit 45 ports in 27 countries stretching from the Caribbean and South America, to Africa, the Far East, Arabia and Europe. Along the way, they will enjoy 13 overnight visits and exclusive insider access to seldom-seen global treasures. Fares start at $59,585 pp.
Guests sailing aboard the full 115-day World Cruise will enjoy such exclusive amenities as roundtrip Business Class air and private car transfers (airport/ship/airport), 5 percent extended voyage savings, a $2,000 onboard spending credit (per dbl suite), complimentary laundry service, four hours of Internet service per voyage segment, three experiences ashore, a special commemorative gift and more.
Tucker also adds, “By announcing these voyages many months in advance, travelers are able to book early and lock in a specific suite preference. Also, they can take advantage of generous savings incentives, including Silver Savings of up to 60 percent, which is a capacity-controlled rate that is likely to increase as the sailing date approaches.”
