Agents Get the Point of Sabre Technology

RCA Winner Logo With its mind-boggling array of technology that makes booking and travel agency service the best and most efficient it’s ever been, it’s no wonder Sabre Travel Network has wrapped up the Best Reservation/GDS System for nine years in a row.

According to Heidi Castle, media relations for Sabre Travel Network, “We’re flattered and honored to win the Readers’ Choice Award for the ninth year in a row and want to thank all the agencies who support and voted for us.”

But Castle is also aware that the company’s not going to earn that kind of loyalty without working hard to earn the trust of the travel agent industry they serve.

“Our customers tell us they need to deliver the best travel options at the best value. So we created the innovative solution they need to stay ahead and win in a highly competitive and changing industry,” Castle says. “Content is king and delivering the comprehensive content that agents need is part of the fabric of who we are. Agents know they can rely on Sabre for more comprehensive content—not just in air, hotel and car but our leisure content stands out as well.”

Almost 18 months ago, the company rolled out its Sabre Red Workspace—a customizable workspace—which has been a huge success with agents. “We truly believe that the Sabre Red Workspace will transform the way travel agents work. We began rolling out the Workspace in July 2010. Today, we have upgraded more than 170,000 agents to the Workspace.”

This year, Sabre also introduced its enhanced graphical capabilities for the Workspace. Sabre’s graphical view has simplified the shopping and booking process, allowing agents to book air, hotel, car and other suppliers using a fully graphical workflow. “It allows agents to tailor their workflow based on their needs and preferences,” Castle explains. “And, because agents can easily toggle back and forth between the classic view and graphical view, it is a valuable tool for seasoned agents and those who are just starting out.”

In September, the company announced the Sabre Red App Centre, which will be the world’s first application store for travel agents. The Red App Centre will allow agents to tap into the collective creativity of developers around the world. Agents will be able to easily shop for a wide range of applications and then quickly integrate those apps into the Red Workspace.

Agent education is still another important aspect of Sabre’s service to the industry. In fact, Sabre’s Technology & Marketing University will be held June 4-7 at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, where both business and leisure agents can explore best practices, learn new marketing techniques and master the latest technology trends.

“We’re putting together a top-notch program with a great roster of industry experts. It is one program agents should not miss,” Castle urges. And with good reason, she adds, “To be successful in the future, agencies must leverage new technologies to effectively manage the demands of tomorrow’s travelers. And we want to be their partner in that endeavour. Next year we’ll continue to add new enhancements to Sabre Red Workspace, and continue investments in air, ancillaries and mobile services.”
