Sandals LaSource in Grenada

The makings of an all-inclusive resort can go as follows: coconut palm trees dotting a white-sand beach; cabanas and lounge chairs found oceanside with a few hammocks swinging in the breeze; a butler in crisp uniform serving guests cool, refreshing cocktails; and a wide selection of onsite restaurants to choose from—let’s not forget that nightly entertainment, as well. The formula is about the same across the board, yet these all-inclusive brands—and their distinctive properties—are each unique in their own way.

We’ve handpicked a few all-inclusive brands to compile this list in order to share with you what’s new and improved about each one—whether it’s new services, packages, accommodations, or family-friendly offerings.

amresorts

It’s been a bang-up time for AMResorts, with the launch of the adults-only Breathless Resorts & Spas brand in late-2013—and that’s to an already long roster of all-inclusive brands, including Zoëtry Wellness & Spa Resorts, Secrets Resorts & Spas, Dreams Resorts & Spas, Now Resorts & Spas, and Sunscape Resorts & Spas. In fact, the company reported a 23.2 percent revenue gain in 2013—AMResorts most definitely does not rest on its laurels. Here’s what’s new: AMResorts will debut the 441-room Dreams Sands Cancun Resort & Spa this September; the 424-room Secrets Playa Mujeres Golf & Spa Resort will open this November; and the intimate, 35-room  Zoëtry Villa Rolandi Isla Mujeres Cancun  will join the roster this December. Then in December 2015, the 425-room Secrets Akumal Riviera Maya and the 500-room Breathless Petempich Riviera Maya will open their doors. In other news, Zoëtry Paraiso de la Bonita Riviera Maya earned the AAA five-diamond award for the 11th consecutive year—the longest streak in Mexico’s Riviera Maya region; and Secrets Maroma Beach Riviera Cancun won this honor for the first-time. The latter is one of only two adults-only, all-inclusive resorts to hold the AAA five-diamond recognition. amresorts.com or amragents.net

“We market each all-inclusive Hard Rock Hotel as a completely unmatched experience that encompasses the Hard Rock vibe, along with luxurious all-inclusive amenities. palace resorts & le blanc

Palace Resorts is an all-inclusive giant that last year saw an increase in occupancy rates for all seven properties—including the more-exclusive Le Blanc Spa Resort—go up 20 percent over its 2012 numbers; the company also saw an increase in its wedding offerings with about 2,500 ceremonies performed last year, a 28 percent growth from 2012. Palace Resorts is made up of seven oceanfront resorts all located in Mexico—Cancun, Cozumel, Isla Mujeres, and Riviera Maya.

What’s the draw for travelers? Maybe it’s the $1,500 resort credit guests receive when they book a 5-night stay or more that can be used for spa treatments, golf excursions, wedding packages, and off-site tours. Or it could be the all-star line-up of entertainers who performed at the Moon Palace Golf & Spa Resort like Michael Bolton, Usher, classic rock band Chicago, and Ricky Martin.

Gibran Chapur, executive v.p. for Palace Resorts, shares his thoughts: “The success and unprecedented growth of Palace Resorts can be accredited to our high-quality product, indispensable team of service-oriented individuals and commitment to surpassing guest expectations by redefining the notion of what an all-inclusive should and can offer.” And those offerings expanded last year when Moon Palace underwent a $22 million dollar renovation to its Nizuc section, which added 120 guestrooms, a pool, a new mini-golf course, a beauty salon and kids’ club, The Playroom, where kids are entertained with a creativity area, Xbox and arcade zone, movie theater and mini soccer field. Book the Kids Stay Free package and up to two kids 12 and under stay and eat free at four Palace Resorts. All-inclusive accommodations rates start at $172 pp.

Le Blanc Spa Resort itself has garnered a few accolades recently, including another five-diamond award—its fourth in as many years—and a place on Conde Nast Traveler’s Best Places in the World to Stay in 2014 list. Adding to the luxury vibe is a new menu at Lumiere, the hotel’s most exclusive restaurant serving French-fusion cuisine, and the enhancement of spa services. The resort is promoting its healthy side with a buffet at the main restaurant that offers healthy options and a new area by the Sol Pool that offers natural fruit smoothies.  palaceresorts.com or palaceproagents.com

sunset resorts

The island of Jamaica is home base for Sunset Resorts, with three all-inclusive properties in Montego Bay and Negril. With summer just around the corner, Sunset Resorts has announced a new program for kids and teens, Sunrise Adventure Camp.

At no additional charge to guests, Sunrise Adventure Camp, which runs through Aug. 31, offers such activities as Marine Exploration trips where kids get a chance to learn about the importance of marine life with experts before boarding a glass-bottom boat to see and feed fish. After the excursion, kids return to the resort to receive an honorary park ranger certificate. There is also the Future Chefs class where they’ll learn from an award-winning culinary team how to make cookies, omelets, pizza, and other scrumptious delights. Mom and Dad can join in on the fun at dive-in movie nights—grab a seat by the pool and watch a movie projected onto the large pirate ship at the resort’s waterpark.

Other activities include photography, soccer, arts & crafts, and mini-golf tournaments. The adventure camp is available at the Sunset Beach Resort, Spa & Waterpark and the Oasis at Sunset, both in Montego Bay.

The brand’s third property is the boutique resort, Sunset at the Palms in Negril—an adults-only enclave with 85 treehouse-designed guestrooms—ideal for a honeymoon. sunsetresortsjamaica.com or sunsetresortsjamaica.com/travel-agents
