The Sandpearl Spa sits on the other side of the resort from Caretta on the Gulf in a serene enclave. Its wealth of treatments is almost overwhelming: water therapies, massages and more. There are even full lines of treatments designed exclusively for men and kids.
No matter how you’re indulging at Sandpearl, you can do so knowing that you’re leaving behind a very small carbon footprint. The resort is the only one in all of Florida with a Silver LEED certification, which means it’s met some pretty strict standards for eco-awareness. From re-purifying and re-using the water in its laundry rooms, to special sensors in guestrooms that conserve energy, there’s an earth-friendly initiative in just about every aspect of hotel operations here—fitting for a resort that takes so much of its beauty from the nature sitting right outside its doors. Guests can take a LEED tour to learn more about how the resort reduces its impact on the environment. It might sound a bit dull, but we have to admit we found it fascinating.
At Sandpearl’s activities desk, clients can rent bicycles—possibly its smartest offering, because the town surrounding it is ripe for exploring on bike. One unmissable stop is the Clearwater Marine Aquarium, especially for guests traveling with kids. Not only is it a working marine hospital where animal lovers of all ages can witness rescued turtles, dolphins and other marine life as they recover from injuries sustained in the outside world, but it’s also home to Winter, the star of the recent film, “Dolphin Tale.” Clearwater’s Pier 60 is another ideal destination for bike-based explorers. Each evening, tourists and locals alike gather here to celebrate another spectacular sunset. The festivities draw street performers, live music, and crafters and artisans selling their wares.
