the phoenician This low-slung, five-diamond resort is nestled against Scottsdale’s signature Camelback Mountain (great for hiking), with a ritzy pool complex and a 6,300-yard, 27-hole, Troon-managed course laid out at its feet. Grouped into three 9-hole courses (Oasis, Desert and Canyon) offering a manicured version of the Sonoran Desert, the course is challenging and diverse (it boasts Arizona’s only sand-island green). It’s complemented by first-class practice facilities with great resources to improve one’s game, including a driving range, chipping green and state-of-the-art putting green. The real joy, however, happens at the Phoenician Golf Academy. The morning begins with a computer-based video analysis, followed by lunch, a lesson at the tee plus nine holes with a trained PGA staff member. At the end of the day, the take-home is a DVD and a personalized game plan. And because man (or woman) does not live by golf alone, we recommend a visit to the new Relish Burger Bistro at the clubhouse. Alongside its gourmet menu of All-American favorites (think Kobe beef burgers), they serve libations from the largest tequila collection in the state. Try the 8-year-old El Tesoro Paradiso, created exclusively for guests and visitors of The Phoenician.

The Masters Getaway package (rate plan GOLF2011) includes accommodations in one of the 583 swanky guestrooms, daily breakfast in-room or at a resort restaurant, unlimited golf, cart use and use of practice facilities. Rates start at $329 per night May 23 through Sept. 30; $495 from Oct. 1 through Dec. 31.

terranea resort Opened in June 2009 in Rancho Palos Verdes, the 102-acre Terranea Resort is only 20 miles from LAX. It sits above the Pacific, offering 270-degree oceanfront views and Mediterranean architecture and a design that tries to play up these views at every turn. Accommodation choices include a 360-room hotel, 20 2-bedroom bungalows, 50 oceanview casitas and 32 villas. Terranea offers an alternative to the mega-golf resort experience with a 9-hole, par 3 oceanfront course. The Links at Terranea boasts amazing views of the Pacific Ocean and Catalina Island. The 2-tiered practice putting green can be used as a 9- or 18-hole putting course. Golf clinics for adults and kids are available, and the links are very much a part of the programming for younger guests. This summer, Terranea is offering a series of five golf day camps for ages 7 to 15. Families can also enjoy three pools, including one with a 140-ft. waterslide, and a children’s center for those who don’t want to play golf. The resort also offers a secluded beach cove, miles of scenic bluff-top trails that connect miles of off-property coastal trails. Three oceanview restaurants have views as good as the food. And when it’s time to truly wind down, the resort’s impressive 50,000-sq.-ft. oceanfront spa offers customized wellness treatments and features a 5,000-sq.-ft. fitness facility.

The Unlimited Golf package features accommodations, unlimited golf for two from check-in to check-out, boxed lunch for two delivered on course and daily resort fee. Rates start at $465 per night (subject to availability).

the kapalua villas Picture this: a 22,000-acre natural park setting home to exotic species found nowhere else on earth and a marine life that teems and thrives in protected sanctuaries—all surrounded by the beauty that is Hawaii. That’s what your clients will get if you book them at the expansive Kapalua Resort in Maui, which offers several accommodation options, but for home-style luxury, get them one of the Kapalua Villas, which recently joined the Outrigger family of hotels and resorts and offer maid service, full kitchens, and are available in 1-, 2-, or 3-bedroom layouts, opening up to views of the ocean and fairways. And those aren’t just any fairways—the resort offers two 18-hole golf courses that are certified Audubon sanctuaries, protecting 23 species of birds and helping preserve native plants and habitats. How’s that for teeing off in paradise? Indeed, the par 73, 7,411-yard Plantation Course, site of the PGA TOUR Hyundai Tournament of Champions each January and designed by Ben Crenshaw and Bill Coore, unfurls across natural geographic formations and pineapple plantation fields, while the 6,600-yard,
