Private Islands Sizzle

Activities on the island beyond the eight white sandy beaches include pampering spa treatments, watersports, horseback riding, tennis and boat excursions. Basic rates start at $520 per night dbl, including breakfast and $720 including breakfast and dinner, excluding beverages.

Palm Island Resort in St. Vincent, meanwhile, is an all-inclusive, 135-acre, eco-friendly and green-certified resort. It has only 41 guestrooms and two villas, and five sand beaches amongst its natural treasures. The resort continuously makes small touches to offer guests more, including recent upgrades to all accommodations with air conditioning and renovations to two formerly private residences into luxurious villas, plus the addition of four large suites. Two restaurants give guests a choice of casual or formal dining. Activities include time in the spa and complimentary tennis, croquet, ping pong, cycling, kayaking and windsurfing. Three hiking trails, fitness center and excursions that include the chance to snorkel are easily arranged. Nightly all-inclusive rates start at $725 dbl including tax and service fees.

“Private island ownership has long stood as the ultimate symbol of opulence, and a private island vacation embodies the luxury and exclusivity of this lifestyle,” says Steven Heydt, president, Elite Island Resorts. “From the moment guests board the private boat service, they realize they are about to experience a unique vacation where they can completely unwind and unplug.”

Not too shy about its own appeal, Petite St. Vincent is a 115-acre private island in the Grenadines that just completed a major renovation that included the refurbishment of all 22 cottages and the construction of a new spa and beach restaurant.

To celebrate the renovation, guests can book seven nights for the price of six, or choose the Honeymoon and Romance package, which includes 7-night accommodations, three meals daily, a private dinner on the beach, complimentary massage for two, champagne and fruit in room upon arrival, a half-day snorkeling trip to the Tobago Cays and a picnic for two on Mopion Island. Rates for the package start at $6,750 dbl. Both offers are available through Aug. 31, 2012. Regular rates start at $1,050 per night, per couple including all meals, unlimited room service, boat transport from nearby Union Island and non-motorized watersports.

Petite St. Vincent offers watersports options, a fitness trail and movie night, but, according to Kimberly Greiner, spokesperson for the resort, the resort prides itself on what is “not there,” including no telephones, no TVs, no cars, no keys and no airstrip, allowing guests to truly reconnect with nature, family, partners and themselves.
