The Hyatts’ watersports program is expansive and diverse, fitting for an island that boasts some of the best undersea experiences in the world. Clients can learn to scuba dive or book a snorkeling excursion to take full advantage of Curaçao’s spectacular, teeming coral reefs. Or, they can simply sit back and enjoy a sunset cruise around Spanish Waters bay, complete with wine, beer, snacks and views of some stunningly large and upscale waterfront homes.
Back at the resort, the Atabei Spa performs treatments using local products like sea salt and coconut, with four treatment rooms that are entirely self-contained, with private changing areas, showers, and outdoor relaxation areas attached. That extra bit of privacy makes a world of difference; clients feel as if their treatment room is really their own domain, and can relax in post-treatment bliss rather than making sure they’re covered and presentable to return to a public locker room. There is a public relaxation lounge as well, stocked with water, tea, wine and snacks for before or after treatments. Lotions and salves from local herbalist Dinah Veeris are available in the spa shop, giving clients the chance to take home a relaxing, pampering and authentically Caribbean souvenir.
Golf is another cornerstone of the Hyatt Regency Curaçao experience, thanks to its Pete Dye-designed, par-72 Old Quarry Golf Course. Meandering along the coasts of the Caribbean Sea as well as Spanish Water bay, golfers move from rugged rocky coast to marshland as they play through. Picturesque Tafelberg, or the Table Mountain of Curaçao, sits at the center of the course, providing a unique, photo-worthy backdrop to many holes. And though Curaçao is known for its arid, desert-like landscape, the Old Quarry course is kept up with a sophisticated, state-of-the-art system of 1,800 sprinklers, designed to ensure the course stays green and primed for all levels of golfers throughout the year. Five sets of tees at each hole accommodate beginner through expert level golfers, and shoes, clubs and balls are all available at the clubhouse next to SHOR restaurant.
Rates at the Hyatt Regency Curaçao start at $259 through Dec. 22. Clients looking for the ultimate in serenity should consider the Balance Relaxation package, including daily breakfast for two at MEDI, one $250 spa credit per stay and a 1 p.m. late check-out, with rates starting at $335 per room.
