What’s new with cruise, you ask? In short, Carnival Cruise Line is launching its second Vista-class ship spring 2018, the Norwegian Dawn is sporting a stylish new look following a month-long renovation, and Silversea Cruises is moving ahead with its $170 million fleet-wide refurbishment plan.

A New Ship on the Horizon
In March 2018, Carnival plans to launch Carnival Horizon, the line’s second Vista-class ship (the first being Carnival Vista). The 3,934-passenger ship is currently under construction in Marghera, Italy, and once complete, will weigh 133,500 tons and offer many of the same amenities, entertainment and activity options available on Carnival Vista including SkyRide, the IMAX Theatre, the WaterWorks aqua park, the Seuss at Sea program and Alchemy Bar. In addition, Carnival Horizon will feature a number of new innovations unique to this ship. In keeping with the brand’s family-friendly positioning, Carnival Horizon will offer a wide range of accommodation categories, including spacious Family Harbor cabins and the popular Havana staterooms. The ship’s homeport and itinerary details for Carnival Horizon have not yet been announced. For more information, call (800) 764-7419 or visit carnival.com.

A New Day for the Norwegian Dawn
After a month-long dry dock, Norwegian Cruise Line’s Norwegian Dawn has returned to her seasonal homeport of Boston with a new look in preparation for the summer season. The renovations—a part of the line’s $400 million investment in the Norwegian Edge program—encompassed essentially every part of the onboard experience and includes the addition of new restaurants, bars and lounges, including the popular O’Sheehans Bar & Grill, Sugarcane Mojito Bar, Bliss Lounge and The Cellars, a Michael Mondavi Family Wine Bar, as well as the new upscale Mexican dining venue Los Lobos Cantina.

Additionally, all of the Norwegian Dawn’s staterooms received a complete makeover with new carpets, bedding, drapery, artwork, flat-screen TVs and furniture. The ship’s two signature Garden Villas also received a refresh with new flooring, furniture, ceilings, lighting, bedding, decor and 42” flat-screen TVs. The design and decor in all of the public spaces are also sporting a fresh look. The ship’s Atrium features a more modern aesthetic with plush carpet and new lighting, chic furniture and a new lounge seating area, as well as enhancements to the Guest Services reception desks. The ship’s existing shopping venue Ports O’Call has been renamed Tradewinds and also received a complete makeover with new finishes, and lighting, plus the addition of a brand-new shopping venue, Tides, offering a selection of fine jewelry.

Adding to the Norwegian Dawn’s new look and feel is the new decking and white awnings on the ship’s pool deck, the upgraded Entourage teen space and video arcade with built-in entertainment areas, new carpeting, wall finishes, and new modern furniture, plus the upgraded Photo Gallery featuring new individual digital monitors and larger photo display panels, making it easier for guests to view and purchase mementos from their cruise. Your clients can get a first-hand look at all of the Norwegian Dawn’s enhancements this fall when the ship sails from Boston to Bermuda each week through October, or this November, when she’ll sail from New Orleans to the Western Caribbean. A New Level of Excellence
Silversea has announced that it is investing $170 million in the biggest fleet-wide refurbishment plan in its history. The Silver Whisper, which hosted the Silversea’s 2016 World Cruise, is set to undergo its revitalization by the end of this year. In an effort to better serve its guests, Norwegian heavily relied upon feedback from World cruisers for the project. Highlights of the renovation include refurbished suites with the bathrooms adorned with dark emperor marble flooring, a freshly tiled pool and new chaise longues. Dining areas at The Restaurant and La Terrazza will receive plush new carpet and hard-wood parquet, respectively, as well as new furniture. In addition, Silver Whisper will feature two satellite antennas, vastly improving Internet speeds on board.

Meanwhile, the Silver Wind will also receive a few updates during her dry dock in October, including the refurbishment of furniture, furnishings and pool deck, plus the addition of interactive TVs and on-demand movies in every suite. The Silver Discoverer is also entering dry dock this October and when it emerges will feature the most visible changes in the public areas—the remodeling of The Restaurant, new furniture in the pool grill area and the transformation of The Discoverer lounge from a breakfast venue to a sophisticated lounge. Additional updates will be available from Silversea in the future. For more information, call (888) 978-4070 or visit silversea.com.
