Eilat
Eilat is the southernmost city of Israel, sitting on the coast of the Red Sea with beautiful beaches, seafront bars and restaurants, first-rate hotels, watersports, a spectacular underwater world and coral reefs, diving clubs, desert treks, camel tours and swimming with dolphins programs.
The waters of the Red Sea with its beautiful coral reefs that attract thousands of varieties of fish and other marine life forms—all living on or around the northernmost coral reef in the world—are pristine.
Sightseeing
The Dolphin Reef is an ecological site where visitors can enjoy a relaxed atmosphere along the seashore while watching bottlenose dolphins in their natural surroundings. Visitors can swim and dive with the dolphins at the reef and enjoy three heated pools where they can swim, rest and be pampered. There’s a deep seawater pool and a soft water pool (rain water) with soothing music emanating from under the water, as well as a salt water pool. Each session is 1.5 hours long and it’s recommended participants take it in the evening hours by candlelight and with a good wine. It’s restricted to 12 adults only.
Eilat’s famous Underwater Observatory is also a must. It is one of only four such facilities in the world. Visitors descend a spiral staircase in this round observatory that takes them below the water surface, allowing them to comfortably observe actual life along the coral reef.
Eilat is also a haven for bird observation. It’s the only land bridge between Asia and Africa and one of the world’s most important bird migratory routes. Fall and spring are the main migratory seasons, but birds can be seen crossing continents every month of the year.
Timna Park
Eilat is surrounded by spectacular mountains—the Eilat Mountains from the west and the Jordanian Edom Mountains from the east. One famous attraction in the area is the Timna Park, the site of ancient copper mines. Today, the place is known for its beautiful colored rocks, stunning cliffs and canyons.
As Israel’s premier vacation spot, Eilat offers a wide range of hotels, dining and shopping opportunities, with restaurants to suit any taste, be it Thai, Middle Eastern, Italian and many others. Fresh fish and seafood are brought in daily from the Red Sea. The most convenient way to get to Eilat is by plane. Flights to Eilat arrive from both national and international destinations daily. |
