In the recreationally rich resort area of Eilat, clients can spend a day frolicking with the dolphins at Dolphin Reef, or they can also swim, snorkel and party at Rafsoda—a nautically designed “entertainment island” in the Red Sea with swimming, snorkeling and sunbathing facilities, as well as a selection of restaurants, bars and entertainment venues that go well into the night with Israeli and international music, dancing and dinner shows.
There’s an enormous selection of watersports activities, from diving in the Red Sea—reputed to be some of the best diving waters in the world—to windsurfing, waterskiing, sailing and deep-sea fishing. There’s also parasailing, and for real thrill seekers, there’s the Eilat Sky Dive School. Here, clients spend their first 10-12 hours in the Airodium Wind Tunnel, which gives students the opportunity to get as close to really flying like a bird as they’ll ever get. If they’re still willing, they then head up in the school’s Cessna for their first real sky dive.
Eilat has numerous gorgeous beaches for visitors to enjoy including:
- Princess Beach on the southern coast near the Egyptian border with a bathing pier and it’s also convenient for snorkeling and diving.
- Village Beach is a popular beach for the younger crowd with a cafe offering live music night and day.
- Reef Beach has a variety of watersports available from jet-skiing and windsurfing to kayaking.
- Dolphin Reef Beach is a palm-fringed spot with shaded cafes, a restaurant-bar and, of course, swimming with the dolphins.
- The Coral Reef Reserve Beach is a family-oriented getaway and the northernmost beach in Eilat that’s home to Eilat’s most popular diving reef.
While Eilat is justifiably famous for its seaside environment and magnificent coral reefs, it‘s also internationally renowned for its birdwatching. And again, it’s because of its unique location where it’s literally juxtaposing three continents—Africa, Asia and Europe—making it the principal migration route for millions of birds. In the spring, in fact, 30 species of birds of prey soar above the Eilat Mountains, making it a popular place for thousands of enthusiastic birdwatchers from all over the world.
This seaside resort town is also home to the Israel Birdwatching Center Eilat—a nonprofit organization dedicated to bird conservation, research and education in Eilat and the area—which hosts an annual spring festival in late March attended by birdwatchers from around the world. It also organizes birding trips year-round to nearby birding hotspots, so participants can see a maximum number of species in the shortest period of time.
