The Many Faces of Panama and Costa Rica What AdventureSmith is calling its most comprehensive Panama itinerary ever offered, The Many Faces of Panama and Costa Rica is an active 11-day expedition that immerses guests in the wild landscape of this tropical, lush region of Central America. The journey begins in Colon, Panama, where guests will board the 62-passenger Sea Lion and set sail for a Panama Canal transit, anchoring in Lake Gatun overnight. Here, guests can take in views of the area’s diverse flora and fauna, and watch for over 500 species of birds. Trip highlights include a visit to Barro Colorado Nature Monument—the primary Smithsonian center for tropical rainforest study since 1923—Casco Viejo, a UNESCO World Heritage Site at the historic center of Panama City and Panama’s Isla Coiba National Park. Vietnam & Cambodia: Along the Mekong River With four departures beginning in late-January and continuing through mid-March 2012, the 14-day Vietnam & Cambodia: Along the Mekong River itinerary explores the archaeology and culture of these ancient countries. The journey begins in Siem Reap—the gateway to Angkor—where guests spend three nights at La Residence d’Angkor situated along the Siem Reap River. On day three, passengers will head to  Angkor Wat—a 12th century temple and one of the world’s largest religious monuments— to watch the sunrise. Other trip highlights include a drive to the Tonle Sap River with a stop in the market town of Skon; a visit to the town of Konpong Chnag; and a full day exploring the Cambodian capital of Phnom Penh, situated at the center of the Mekong, Bassac and Tonle Sap rivers. Hawaiian Seascapes Guests can discover Hawaii’s old traditions and lush landscapes on the 8-day Hawaiian Seascapes small yacht adventure. This five-island itinerary allows passengers to explore Hawaii’s rich traditions and natural wonders, along with plenty of outdoor activities. From aboard the 39-guest Safari Explorer, passengers can watch for whales off Maui and the Big Island of Hawaii, while ports of call in Maui, Moloka’I and the Big Island, allow for plenty of snorkeling, scuba diving and kayaking.
