But more importantly, Jacox says, “…in order to really maximize the nature and wilderness experience in Southeast Alaska, we spend the majority of the time out in the wilderness, not really getting into port calls a lot, but when we do go into a port call, it’s not really a traditional port call, it’s Wrangell,” or, he adds, a small native American community. “Then the culture comes into play when we do make those small town stops and also we do things like on the west coast, we have an oyster farmer that comes on board in the evening with his family and the family will have dinner with the guests on board and, of course, we’ll buy fresh oysters and fish from him and that’s what we’ll serve at dinner. So it’s really a great cultural experience and much more authentic to be able to meet people who actually live this unique lifestyle out in the remote wilderness.”
