River, ocean, sea and safari, no matter what kind of cruising your clients prefer, it seems like all cruise operators are adding new ships, destinations and itineraries to their list of options. Here’s the latest and greatest from four companies in Europe, North America, Asia and Africa.
Viking River Cruises
Remember our article not so long ago announcing the six new Viking Longships that Viking River Cruises debuted in this year? Back then, the company had told us they were planning on debuting six more ships in 2013. Since then, Viking River Cruises’ plans have changed. Instead, the company is promising not six or even seven, but eight new Viking Longships on the way for next year. Each ship will sail between one and five already established itineraries, upping passenger capacity by thousands for 2013. New ships and itineraries include, but are not limited to:
• The Viking Atla and the Viking Jarl will both sail the 8-day Rhine Getaway
• The Viking Forseti and the Viking Rinda will both offer the 8-day Rhine Getaway, 15-day Grand European Tour and 22-day Grand Rivers of Europe
• The Viking Skadi will offer the 8-day Danube Waltz, 10-day Tulips & Windmills and 15-day Grand European Tour
• The Viking Var will offer the 8-day Romantic Danube, the 8-day Rhine Getaway, the 15-day Grand European Tour and the 22-day Grand Rivers of Europe
Rates are as follows: eight days from $1,656 pp; 10 days from $1,972 pp; 15 days from $2,962 pp and 22 days from $5,967 pp. For more information, call (800) 707-8697 or visit vikingrivercruises.com.
2013 brings new itineraries and ports of call for Star Clippers, which operates three of the world’s largest and tallest sailing vessels: the Royal Clipper, Star Clipper and Star Flyer.
The Royal Clipper will once again station itself in the Mediterranean, with newly added 7-night roundtrip Croatia & Montenegro itineraries from Venice, Italy, visiting Montenegro, Croatia and Slovenia (brochure rates starting at $2,898 pp dbl). In addition, 3-, 4-, 10- and 11-night itineraries are also available.
Returning to the Baltic and Northern Europe, the 170-guest Star Flyer will visit nine new ports of call for its 2013 season spanning Estonia, Germany, Denmark and Belgium. Itineraries range from two to 11 nights.
Additional 2013 cruising options with Star Clippers include sailings around Spain and the coast of North Africa, 12- to 18-night Grand Voyages, six trans-Atlantic crossings and pre-and post-cruise land touring options. For more information, call (800) 442-0551 or visit starclippers.com.
Uniworld Boutique River Cruises
A company that focuses on providing luxury shipboard vacations—some with luxury land hotel stays, too—Uniworld Boutique River Cruises has upped its 2013 offerings with five new itineraries in Europe. Additionally, the company is extending Asian cruise options by sending three ships to China and Vietnam. New European itineraries include, but are not limited to:
• The 12-night Splendors of Italy, a 7-night cruise plus 2 nights in Florence and 3 nights in Rome, from $5,499 pp
• The 7-night Highlights of Eastern Europe visits Austria, Slovakia, Hungary, Croatia and Serbia, from $2,899 pp
• Combining three shorter cruise itineraries, the 22-day Grand European Highlights explores eight countries through 26 excursions with English-speaking experts, from $7,899 pp
In China, meanwhile, the Century Legend and the Century Paragon will begin sailing on the Yangtze, and the new River Orchid will cruise up and down Vietnam’s Mekong River. For more information, call (800) 733-7820 or visit uniworld.com.
American Safari Cruises
With the debut of its newest un-cruise ship, the 88-passenger Safari Legacy, American Safari Cruises will also introduce new Heritage Safari Cruises to the company’s Living History program.
The Safari Legacy, which will join the ASC fleet in summer 2013, has two itineraries lined up for its first few seasons on the sea. Two 11-night Gold Rush Legacy (from $7,895 pp dbl) sailings will travel between Seattle, OR, and Juneau, AK, departing on Aug. 11 and 22, 2013. Passengers will enjoy whale watching, guided tours while in port and a trip aboard a Victorian-style steamer, while also learning about Alaska’s history and the native Tlingit culture. During fall 2013 and spring 2014, meanwhile, the ship will sail roundtrip from Portland, OR, on 7-night Legacy of Discovery (from $3,195 pp dbl) journeys along the Columbia and Snake rivers, during which guests will visit Multnomah Falls, transit through eight sets of locks, take a jet boat excursion and enjoy a private wine tasting at a Washington winery.
Rates for Safari Legacy cruises include entry fees to museums, national parks and preserves; all onboard meals, fine wines, premium spirits and microbrews, and a complimentary massage. The Safari Legacy features a fitness center, sauna, dance floor, wine bar, DVD and book library and covered sun deck. For more information, call (888) 862-8881 or visit innerseadiscoveries.com.
