The Philip Goldson International airport (BZE) will reopen on August 15, 2020, enabling travel to return to Belize with specific protocols and guidelines in place.
All visitors to Belize must download the Belize Health app on their mobile phone. This will help authorities manage one’s movement in Belize and provide timely communication.
After hotel confirmation is received, the traveler must register their travel on the Belize Health app and will then be provided with a unique QR code ID, which will be required on arrival in Belize.
Visitors are also highly encouraged to be tested for COVID-19 within 72 hours of arrival, which will fast track the entry of visitors into the country. A certified negative result will put you on the fast track arrival lane at the airport. You will be able to upload your test results via the app.
If a traveler doesn’t have a certified test before arrival, he or she may be required to take a rapid test at their own expense when they arrive at the airport. If they test positive on arrival, they will be required to enter a 14-day quarantine at an approved facility at their own expense.
Upon arrival at the airport, there will have enhanced health screening, temperature checks and verification of one’s unique ID from the health app.
During one’s stay, they must adhere to all health and safety protocols, including social distancing and wearing of masks in public. They will also be required to check in daily via the Belize Health App.
Enhanced health and safety protocols for hotels are also in effect as part of the destination’s new “Tourism Gold Standard” recognition program for hotels, restaurants and tour operators. This nine-point program seeks to enhance the tourism industry’s health and safety standards by adapting new behaviors and procedures to ensure both employees and travelers are confident in the cleanliness and safety of Belize’s tourism product.
As of August 15, it is expected that United, Delta, Avianca, and American Airlines will resume flights.
