Safari for artists
Capture the nature and wildlife through art at Joy’s Camp.

Joy’s Camp in Kenya is offering an Art Safari perfect for the art aficionado, or even the art rookie, interested in a lesson.

For those moments when a camera isn’t enough to capture what the eye sees, a local artist accompanies the guest during a walking or driving safari to sketch on location. In the middle of the African bush with 360-degree views of the Northern Frontier, guests can choose watercolors or charcoal pencils to let their inspiration flow onto the easel. The artist is there for instruction and advice during the safari. Popular spots for travelers to let their inner artist come out include the winding Ewaso Nyiro, a river lined with Fever Trees, and sand or the top of Penny’s rock for views of expansive landscapes with mountains on the horizon. Itineraries are flexible, allowing guests to choose a departure from early morning to sundown, giving them the position of the sun for the light contrast they desire.

Joy’s Camp features 10 chic canvas bedrooms overlooking a natural spring; each tent is uniquely decorated with handmade glass and vibrant fabrics of the local nomadic tribes with a private veranda, for game viewing. Rates start at $350 pp dbl, including meals, game drives, bush walks, bush breakfasts, sundowners, local airstrip transfers, and limited laundry. For more information, visit joyscamp.com.
