The Next Generation in Gay Travel

The Mark Travel Company, which owns and manages well-known travel brands such as Funjet Vacations, Blue Sky Tours and MGM Resorts Vacations, among others, has added a brand-new company to its roster—Brand g Vacations—offering specialized group experiences to the evolving LGBT travel segment.

With the tagline, “the next generation in gay travel,” Brand g was created not only for the gay and lesbian traveler, but for friends and family of the LGBT community, as well.

“Brand g is about having our vacations reflect the changes that our community has gone through in the last 25 years,” says Charlie Rounds, the brand’s general manager. “You will see more of a mix of men and women, and some of our LGBT guests will bring straight friends and family members.”

Brand g will primarily offer escorted group tours to international destinations. “We will also be going to destinations that give full equality to our community,” Rounds tells Recommend. “Mexico City is a good example of that—a fantastic destination where its LGBT citizens enjoy equal rights.” He adds, “Mexico’s rich combination of culture, history, architecture, archaeology, museums and cuisine make it a must-see for North Americans, especially since it is so close and such a great value.”

The 6-day Mexico City Discovery tour departs in October 2012 with rates starting at $1,099 pp dbl. This tour features guided tours of the colonial center, National Palace and cathedral, as well as visits to the pre-Columbian mining city of Taxco and the Pyramids of the Sun and Moon, among other highlights.

Meanwhile, the company’s inaugural trip, taking place in August 2012 is a full-ship charter of AMA Waterways’ newest 164-passenger riverboat, the AmaCerto. This trip will feature two nights in Prague followed by a custom-tailored, 7-day itinerary down the Danube River. Rates start at $2,799 pp dbl.

“The riverboat is still a novel idea for most people and it is such a great way to see so many places without having to pack and unpack,” explains Rounds. “The particular itinerary that we have chosen is my favorite because it allows guests so much time in each city. We also think it is an ideal honeymoon experience. There’s no better way to celebrate than on a romantic journey through Europe’s historic villages, and surrounded by gay and lesbian well-wishers.”

With a departure in September 2012, Brand g Vacations will also offer an Ireland Countryside & Dublin itinerary—priced at $1,799 pp dbl—including a guided walking tour of Dublin, a visit to the historic town of Cashel, as well as stops in Cork and Killarney. “Most people don’t think of Ireland or have not been there,” notes Rounds. “And I know from past experience that people will love it.”
