As the newest amenity in its line of slow adventure tours, Butterfield & Robinson (B&R) has announced the arrival of electronic-assisted bikes—better known as “e-bikes”—to its European fleet for 2012.
According to the company, “They’re designed to flatten the hills and ease the challenge of those all too common ascents that define many of our European itineraries.” The e-bikes will allow those who are less confident and less fit to accept the challenge of a B&R bike tour with an extra measure of assurance.
Functioning just like regular nine-gear bicycles but with three added assist options, the e-bikes will be available on all B&R tours in Europe. A battery sits in the center of the bike to keep the tires rolling when a bit of a boost would come in handy, and can be plugged in at night to recharge for the next day’s adventure.
E-bikes are available for an additional $300 per bike on a first-come, first-served basis. For more information, visit butterfield.com.
