As more “exotic” destinations in Eastern Europe gain popularity, and travelers are looking for a more localized take on popular destination cities, tour operators are enhancing and adding trips for 2013.

Globus is adding 11 new tours, increasing its list of European destinations to include “exotic” locations and introduce its Local Favorites experiences.

“With Globus, ‘sight-experiencing’ bests ‘sightseeing’ every time,” says Scott Nisbet, president and CEO of the Globus family of brands. “This idea couldn’t be more true in 2013 when we introduce our travelers to Local Favorites—a rare taste of the local flavors and behind-the-scenes journeys—on each and every Europe tour.”

Tours range from seven to 18 days in destinations like Iceland, the Ukraine, Warsaw, Poland and Istanbul, as well as in more popular destinations like France and Italy. With Local Favorites, travelers can experience destinations from a more unique perspective, such as staying in a French chateau on the Normandy, Brittany & Chateau Country tour (rates from $2,249 without air), or baking scones in a farmhouse on From the Shannon to the Thames trip (rates from $2,549 without air).

Trafalgar is also enhancing its First Class itineraries for 2013, adding insider experiences and more local insights, as well as introducing three new trips in its Italy Brochure.

Three of the new First Class itineraries include Capitals of the North, a 16-day trip through northern Europe and Scandinavia; European Spotlight, a 15-day trip visiting cities in England, France and Italy; and Scenic Spain & Portugal, a 10-day trip that has been enhanced and starts and ends in Madrid.

“Besides the three new itineraries we’ve introduced this year, we’ve updated a lot of our existing itineraries to include more of our unique, local Insider Experiences like Be My Guest dinners and Local Specialties, which will make it easier for agents to sell these destinations to their clients,” says Paul Wiseman, president of Trafalgar USA.

In addition, Trafalgar offers 19 First Class, At Leisure and CostSaver trips to Italy. The three new trips include At Leisure’s Corsica & Sardinia, CostSaver’s Jewels of Italy and Highlights of the Italian Lakes. Rates vary starting around $1,199 pp for an At Leisure trip and around $1,675 pp for a First Class trip.
