After heading to Havana to manage Cuba’s first five-star city hotel, Kempinksi Hotels is bringing the island nation its first five-star luxury resort complex with the construction of Cayo Guillermo Resort Kempinski.

Set to open sometime this year, the all-new resort hotel is located in Cayo Guillermo, approximately 300 miles east of Havana. Drawing inspiration from Ernest Hemingways’ love for the area, as well as its nautical surroundings, the resort will be built to resemble the bow of a boat advancing into the ocean. Cayo Guillermo Resort Kempinski will feature 245 guestrooms and suites, including six overwater villas with panoramic views and private plunge pools, plus an overwater presidential suite also offering a private pool. The majority of the standard guestrooms will also offer unobstructed sea views and the white sand Playa Pilar beach will directly be adjacent to the resort. The resort will also feature specialty and buffet restaurants, a kids club, gym, and tennis court, plus a lobby bar and cigar bar.

“I am very pleased to have signed our second project in Cuba with our long term partner Grupo de Turismo Gaviota S.A.,” said Markus Semer, chairman of the management board and CEO of Kempinski Hotels, in press materials. “With Gran Hotel Mazana Kempinski, we introduced the concept of luxury hospitality to the city of Havana and are honored to have also been selected as the management company for the first ever luxury resort in the country. We are proud of the strong partnership we have built with Grupo de Turismo Gaviota and look forward to replicating our accomplishments in Havana, where we look back on particularly successful first two years of operation.”
