The Westin Playa Bonita Panama has a fancy leg up on a slew of hotels opening in Panama in the next two years. Just 20 minutes from all of Panama City’s modern conveniences, this work-and-play resort is Westin’s first venture into Panama, with more than 600 rooms and suites for a luxurious beachfront escape.
Mixing up laid-back elegance with the country’s natural beauty, the $100 million resort is smartly tucked away in Playa Bonita, looking out to the Pacific Ocean and the islets of Taboga and Taboguilla. It’s designed to shower attention on both leisure and business visitors—it’s home to the largest meeting and banquet room in Panama, after all. But on a recent hard-hat tour, general manager Francisco Silva showed us that this property is filled with more than a few of our favorite things: an ice cream parlor and coffee shop, big in-room tubs from which you can watch TV—or better yet, look out to a jungle setting—and of course, all of the popular Westin accoutrements. Add to that three freshwater pools looking out to sea, six deluxe restaurants serving everything from Asian fusion to Mediterranean tapas and an array of day tour options to the Panama Canal, indigenous villages and other area attractions.
The Westin Playa Bonita has a soft opening on Nov. 30 with rates starting at $280 per night. The grand opening is set for the end of January. Keep your eyes and ears open on soon-to-come packages that will combine a jungle getaway at Gamboa Rainforest Resort with a luxurious beach stay at The Westin Playa Bonita Panama. You’ll read much more about Panama in a future onsite review in Recommend’s print edition.
