Historic Fashion in Manhattan Now open following a multi-million dollar transformation, Highgate Hotels’ LOLA is Manhattan’s newest property on 29th Street, telling the tale of its historic address through new architecture, lounges and amenities.

The property was originally built in 1903 as a respectable women’s residence and played host to female screen starlets and fashionistas. To emulate that history, the hotel was rebuilt with lighting designed to cast a “sultry” ambiance, photographic murals highlighting iconic fashion imagery, and fashion illustrations found in-room and throughout the property. Even down to the name, LOLA is “a playful and provocative character that I created to embody the property’s personality,” says Susan Jaques, v.p. of branding for Highgate Hotels.

Each of the property’s 276 guestrooms feature enhanced bathrooms with mosaic-tiled glass showers and chrome accents, as well as in-room 37-inch HD flat-screen TVs, iHome clock/docking stations and stylish work desks.

Rates start at $94 per night. For more information, call (800) 804-4480 or visit

Featuring the multi-ethnic heritage of East Indian, Spanish, British, African, Chinese and Lebanese settlers in Jamaica, guests can enjoy items from the “New Jamaican Cuisine” menu, as well as a full vegetarian menu.

New at the Living Spa are specialized treatments in stress-relief, body and soul rejuvenation, and wellness activities, with five treatment rooms and outdoor yoga deck available for guest use. Bohemian Style in Uruguay Playa Vik Jose Ignacio is the newest property to grace Uruguay’s coast, featuring six small houses (casas) to act as individual homes during the guest’s stay. The property also features contemporary art and design with retractable roofs and windows to bring the outdoors in; cultural additions such as Japanese parchment paper floats in suspended glass panels, and a fiber-optic lit celestial map of the southern hemisphere on cantilevered Uruguayan black granite.

Amenities at Playa Vik include a library, dining room, wine cellar, playroom, pool, outdoor barbecue area, gym and small spa featuring two treatment rooms.

Casas range from one to three bedrooms with living rooms, gardens or terraces as available features. Each casa features bold art and hand-painted floors, and has a fireplace to keep warm during the winter months.
