On Nov. 1-2, Oasis Hotels & Resorts is bringing the rich tradition of the Day of the Dead holiday to life through a series of interactive events for both adults and kids at Grand Oasis Cancun. While there will be festive environments at each of the brand’s eight properties in the Mexican Caribbean, Oasis’ largest resort, Grand Oasis Cancun, is hosting a 2-day event where guests have the opportunity to assemble authentic Day of the Dead altars (a symbolic way for Mexicans to honor the lives of those who have passed), create marigold ornaments (the flower’s vibrant colors and alluring scent is thought to guide the spirits to their altars), and decorate sugar skulls (traditionally used to garnish the altars and tombs with a sugary treat for the visiting spirits). Oasis will host its own Kermesse Parade, a local gathering where parade-goers rejoice Day of the Dead; guests are able to join the parade, participate in contests, games, and more. Attendees will also be able to sample traditional Kermesse fure such as pan de muerto, or bread of the dead. The holiday festivities will also include a performing arts show involving fire, dancing and stunts, all accompanied by an energetic percussion.

In addition, Oasis Hotels & Resorts is also hosting traditional Day of the Dead celebrations at the Kid’s Club at Grand Oasis Cancun, including hands-on activities such as creating paper marogiold flowers, making an original altar, skull face painting, handcrafting fan skulls and more. Rates start at $121 pp per night. For more information, call (800) 446-2747 or visit oasishotels.com.
