Quirk Hotel, a unique design-driven Destination Hotel inspired by the nearby Quirk Gallery, opened last Thursday in Richmond, Virginia. The 74-guestroom boutique property seeks to engage guests with the culture of Richmond through the city’s eccentric, trendy and flourishing art scene.

The 60,000-sq.-ft. property is a historic Richmond landmark located in The Broad Street Commercial Historic District in a 100-year-old Italian Renaissance building that was formerly a J.B. Mosby & Co. department store. Although the hotel underwent major renovations, key elements such as the lobby’s segmental arches, groin vault ceiling, and ornamental ironwork staircase have been preserved from the original design. Quaint artistic elements are also seen throughout Quirk Hotel such as the lobby’s centerpiece—a major art installation comprised entirely of white coffee lids local artist Susie Ganch collected from Richmond coffee shops. Abstract artwork hangs in every guestroom, which also features the building’s original wood floors. Guests can view additional artwork from established and emerging local artists across the hotel’s landscaped courtyard at the Quirk Gallery. The hotel’s Maple & Pine restaurant takes a contemporary approach with its modern American menu mixed with global flavors, and at the rooftop bar overlooking Richmond’s skyline, guests are served classic cocktails, small batch spirits and regional craft beers. Room rates start at $200 per night.

To celebrate its grand opening, Quirk Hotel has partnered with The Sara Belle and Neil November Theatre to offer a special, limited time experiential package. The package, starting at $599 pp, includes an overnight stay in a Quirk Hotel suite, dinner for two at Maple & Pine and tickets for two to the latest show at the 100-year-old theater with either a personal guided tour of the props and costume archives or a personal guided tour of the theater including a complete history of the theater scene in Richmond, backstage access and a meet-and-greet with the actors.
