South Seas Island Resort is offering 3- and 5-day Learn to Sail packages for guests who are interested in earning a sailing certification while on vacation on Captiva Island. The course, designed for beginner, immediate and advanced sailors, takes guests out on the island’s surrounding bays and the Gulf of Mexico for three 8-hour sessions or five half-day sessions. South Seas Island Resort’s sailing programs are overseen by Colgate’s Offshore Sailing School, which conducts classroom sessions each day of guests’ package (textbooks are provided for students in advance), in addition to providing hands-on on-water instruction aboard the official training vessel of the U.S. Naval and Coast Guard Academies, and Maine Maritime Academy, and administering the certification test. Each session allows for a maximum of four students, unless a family or couples traveling together choose a “buy the boat” option, which allows for up to five students.
