Intrepid Travel reported a 100 percent growth last year on bookings for the company’s sustainability-minded tours, compared to a 15 percent growth across all trips. In response to this growing demographic and travel trend, Intrepid Travel is launching new Teenage Family Cycling tours available starting March 2020.

On these active experiences, guests will also get to experience unique opportunities such as staying in a real-life jungle treehouse and a floating cabin in Southern Thailand, explore the blue and white town of Chefchaouen in Morocco, and go off road to explore Vietnam’s Cu Chi tunnels—a 124-mile city made up of underground hospitals, schools, kitchens, and more that were used in the mid 20th century.

Intrepid Travel has launched a new Family Cycling tour created specifically for families with teenagers. The trips, which will visit three of the company’s most popular destinations—Morocco, Thailand and Vietnam—will begin departing in March 2020. These excursions were inspired in part by the recent youth-led climate strikes that took place globally this September.

Each of the new Teenage Family Cycling tours were designed to provide families with the chance to disconnect from devices and reconnect with each other during 10-day journeys that incorporate the highlights of each destination by bike.

“With the recent climate strikes and the youth-led climate movement made famous by Swedish teen activist Greta Thunberg, we are seeing how the younger generation is more environmentally- and socially-conscious than any other. They want to make more informed and responsible choices, including in the ways they travel,” said Dyan Mckie, family product manager for Intrepid Travel in press materials.

“Cycling has a low carbon footprint, and these tours allow families to see a destination through a different lens during active adventures powered by the travelers themselves. We’re excited to provide options for environmentally-conscious youth to travel in a low impact and healthy way,” he adds.

The new tours, which build on Intrepid’s existing collection of Family and Cycling trips, are for travelers aged 10 and above and include:

  • Morocco Family Cycling Holiday, starting at $1,380 pp, takes guests past desert landscapes and around the countryside of Morocco from Casablanca through Tangier, to the blue city of Chefchaouen, Fes, and into Marrakech. Guests will bike for up to 21 miles per day on varied terrain, as they explore the country’s delicious food and vibrant history while traversing through colorful towns, diverse landscapes and along the Mediterranean coastline.
  • Thailand Family Cycling Holiday, starting at $1,625 pp, is an active family adventure that takes travelers cycling through wildlife-rich jungles, city canals, and small villages. Starting in the bustling city of Bangkok and making its way to the remote villages of Southern Thailand, teens will get a chance to sleep in a real-life jungle treehouse and kayak the Ao Thalane bay.
  • Vietnam Family Cycling Holiday, starting at $1,345 pp, is a biking trip from Ho Chi Minh to Hoi An, which take travelers on a journey down country lanes, fishing villages, ancient ruins and lively cities. With a balance of activities and free time, teens and their families will spend time relaxing on the sands of Mui Ne beach, cycle through the Chu Chi tunnels, and take a cooking class with a famous chef.
