With school out and summer heating up, we take a look at some of the luxury hotels across the globe that cater for kids with a range of activities from walking tours of children’s history in D.C. to immersive cinema-inspired activities in Cannes.
5. The Jefferson, DC
Boutique hotel The Jefferson, located in downtown D.C., has introduced a new walking guide called “Kids Who Made American History.” Children staying at the hotel are invited to embark on a day of sightseeing led by hotel historian and former Georgetown professor Susan Sullivan Lagon, Ph.D. that explores the role of children in American history.
Stops include sites related to Sheyann Webb, called the world’s “smallest freedom fighter” by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. due to her civil rights activism as a 9-year-old; as well as the location of transgender student Gavin Grimm’s Supreme Court trial on his school’s restroom use; and the U.S. Capitol statue of Lewis and Clark’s young expedition leader, Sacagawea.
4. Club Med Punta Cana
Club Med Punta Cana’s CREACTIVE by Cirque du Soleil offers kids the chance to experience an immersive circus-inspired playground featuring over 30 recreational acrobatic and artistic activities.
Activities are performed under expert supervision in five separate circus zones and include a flying trapeze, tightrope, vertical wall, percussion and dance, juggling, trampoline, mask painting, clowning and more.
3. Hotel Barrière Le Majestic
Hotel Barrière Le Majestic in Cannes offers a program for kids inspired by its location in one of the film capitals of the world. The Studio by Petit VIP Program lets kids take a seat in the director’s chair, learn how to compose their own movie soundtrack, study movie make-up or direct their own music videos.
Other activities include movie poster making, magic trick lessons, perfume and candle-making workshops and a recycled sailboat workshop. The interactive sessions are designed to provide a unique gateway to art and create awareness about conservation issues.
2. HarbourView Inn
Charleston’s HarbourView Inn offers kids exclusive behind-the-scenes access to the South Carolina Aquarium, where they can learn about the local ecosystem, wild birds of prey, aquatic animals and endangered species.
Stuffed sea animals are set out on kid’s pillows to surprise them upon arrival; and at night they can enjoy complimentary evening milk and cookies under the stars on the hotel’s private rooftop terrace as a local historian teaches them about the Lowcountry’s storied past.
1. Atlantis, The Palm
At Dubai’s five-star ocean-themed resort, Atlantis, The Palm, kids can explore the resort’s 3-million-gallon aquarium, which is one of the top 10 largest aquariums in the world and home to more than 65,000 marine animals.
