Viking has announced that it has ordered seven new river ships that will debut in 2019.

Among the seven ships are six Viking Longships that will sail the company’s most popular itineraries on the Rhine, Main and Danube rivers. Viking Longships accommodate 190 passengers in 95 staterooms including two Explorer Suites—the largest river cruise suites in Europe—as well as seven two-room Veranda Suites with a full-size verandah in the living room and a French balcony in the bedroom, plus 22 French Balcony Staterooms and 39 Veranda Staterooms with full-size verandahs.

The seventh ship on order for 2019 will be designed specifically to sail the company’s Portugal’s River of Gold itinerary on the Douro River. This new ship will join three sister ships currently sailing in the area. The Douro River ships are smaller than Viking Longships accommodating 106 passengers in 53 staterooms and include many of the same popular features such as the Aquavit Terrace—an indoor/outdoor lounge with retractable floor-to-ceiling glass doors that allow guests to enjoy panoramic views and dine al fresco when weather permits.

The addition of these seven ships will bring the Viking river fleet to 69 river ships operating in 2019. Viking will also welcome its sixth ocean ship in 2019.
