Golf with a Side of Luxury

The greens: Carved out of the hilly terrain by designer Algie M. Pulley Jr., the course at Belmont Hills shows off the area’s spectacular sights, including the nearby Great Sound and Hamilton Harbor. The course itself aims to trick golfers into its plentiful water hazards and bunkers; narrow fairways further increase the course’s level of difficulty.

The amenities: Perfect after a long day on the course, Belmont Hills’ Samadhi Spa’s boutique facilities, with only four treatment rooms and two couples’ suites, aim to soothe any golf-related strain. Hungry clients can choose between steak and seafood at Blu Bar & Grill, or authentic French cuisine at Beau Rivage. There’s plenty of relaxing to do at the resort’s infinity pool and adjacent whirlpool; and plenty of exploring to do after a short ride on the resort’s water and beach shuttle, connecting the resort to the city of Hamilton every 20 minutes.

The scene: The bustling restaurants and shops along Front Street make up the capital city of Hamilton’s busiest tourist center, particularly when cruise ships are at dock. Each Wednesday night is Harbor Night on Front Street, bringing out the island’s street performers and crafts sellers, and keeping its boutiques open past normal closing hours. On foot or carried by an old-fashioned horse and carriage, clients can explore city attractions including the Bermuda Cathedral, dating to 1911; the Perot Post Office, named for the island’s first postmaster and dating to 1821; and Fort Hamilton, built in 1889 to protect Hamilton Harbor.

The rates: Regular room rates start at $450 per room per night. Greens fees start at $110.

hamilton parish The property: At the other end of the island sits Tucker’s Point Hotel & Spa, part of a private golf and country club. Rooms here have an elegant beach feel, with sea foam and sandy beige tones and upscale features like stand-alone bathtubs and balconies looking out to Castle Harbor or Harrington Sound. Clients can opt for an upgrade to a poolside deluxe room with walk-in access to the Castle Harbour Pool, or to one of its 1- and 2-bedroom suites, many with fireplaces and wet bars.

The greens: The Tucker’s Point Golf Club course offers views unlike the island’s other golf courses. Situated at the eastern tip of the island, the water here can be choppy, but no less beautiful when viewed from the green. That choppiness comes from west-blowing winds, which can foil clients’ shots as they navigate the par 70 course’s tricky traps, including coral rockface traps, undulating greens and water hazards and bunkers galore.

The amenities: Two separate pools—one for adults only, and one more suited to families—keep clients of all types happy and relaxed here. At Camp Seahorse, the fun for kids continues with tennis, golf and cooking lessons. Guests here also have plenty of dining options, from the upscale Point Restaurant & Terrace serving up a fusion of French and Caribbean cuisine, to the casual Cafe with al fresco lunch and dinner. And when it’s time to explore, scooters are available for rental from Smatt’s Cycles on site.

The scene: There’s plenty of nature to explore in Hamilton Parish. From Crystal Caves—one of the largest caves in Bermuda set 120 ft. under the ground—to Shark Hole, a pristine snorkeling spot. Blue Hole Park, a nature reserve, is ideal for spotting birds like herons on the hunt for beach crabs. And at Shelly Bay, clients will find one of the best examples of the island’s iconic pink beaches.

The rates: Tucker’s Point offers a number of golf packages. Get Linked gives clients staying two or more nights one round of golf pp, plus unlimited use of the practice range, club rentals, a welcome amenity and breakfast daily starting at $585 per night dbl. Get Schooled adds two hours of private instruction with a golf pro to that same package, with rates starting at $705 per night dbl. And Get Zen gives clients both a round of golf and a spa treatment pp, as well as unlimited use of the practice range, club rentals, a welcome amenity and breakfast daily, starting at $885 per night dbl.
