The outer parts of Cape Town are also home to idyllic boutique properties like The Constantia, located in the Cape Winelands. Set just down the street from an expansive, scenic winery, The Constantia comprises only eight rooms, each sporting a modern, open design perfect for a romantic getaway. Spacious suites flow seamlessly into even more spacious bathrooms, with features like double rain showerheads, open-air showers, and stand-alone bathtubs. A small restaurant that’ll make just about anything you request, a pool and a garden with views to the mountains, round out the amenities. Rates start at $324 per room per night, and include alcoholic beverages and daily breakfast.

wine country Just an hour or two from Cape Town’s urban center, the serene wine country of Franschhoek and Paarl awaits. But though they’re only a short distance away, as you drive through their winding mountain roads and past fields of growing grapes, you’ll feel almost as if you’re in a different country entirely. Spectacular vineyards like Franschhoek’s Grand Provence Estate, with its modern sculpture garden and South-of-France aesthetic, entice clients to stop by for a tasting, a snack and a glance at its art gallery. On the other side of Franschhoek, curvy downhill roads make for a leisurely bike ride, while the steep cliffs of the mountain entice adventurers of another sort— paragliders who can take flight above the wineries directly from the side of the mountain.

The town of Franschhoek itself is a small but tourist-friendly town, with easily navigable streets and plenty of restaurants and boutiques at clients’ fingertips—similar, in fact, to the small towns you’ll find in California’s wine country. The Franschhoek hotel puts clients right in the middle of the provincial oasis with easy access to all its offerings. There’s no restaurant inside this 6-room property, due mostly to the exceptional dining options nearby, but clients do have access to a small swimming pool and rooftop terrace perfect for finishing off a bottle of local wine as the sun sets. Rates start at $366 per room per night dbl.

The town of Paarl, a short distance away, is another wine-growing town—this one a bit larger and without the tourist-friendly convenience of Franschhoek. But what the town lacks, The Grande Roche more than makes up for with its impeccable service, historic accommodations and onsite winery. The hotel is a restored farm dating to the 1700s. Today, the former slaves’ chapel is a popular site for weddings, and offers such varied buildings as horse stables and slave quarters transformed into upscale accommodations with flat-screen TVs and spacious bedrooms. Rates start at $364 per room per night, and include alcoholic beverages and daily breakfast.

Goway Travel offers a 4-day Cape Town package that includes a trip up to Table Mountain and sightseeing at the Victoria & Albert Waterfront with rates starting at $453 pp. A 3-day Cape Winelands journey starts at $454 pp. What’s more, Goway’s itineraries are customizable for each individual client, so it’s easy to add trips to Johannesburg, Durban and, of course, safari destinations.
