Dreams Punta Cana Resort & Spa

No matter what a kid’s age—in fact, no matter one’s age at all—small surprises are a delight, and when those surprises are wrapped up in an out-of-this-world beachside resort such as Dreams Punta Cana Resort & Spa in Uvero Alto on the northeast coast of the Dominican Republic, well, then, those surprises can be downright “dreamy.”

We were lucky enough to visit the Dreams Punta Cana Resort & Spa back in April and each stroll through this 47-acre property held a surprise around every corner like the flamingos that readily take bread from your hand, or a stand where fresh fruit is literally being cut up to order for fruit pops to go, not to mention the limitless supply of soft ice cream that you can take yourself from a machine that churns out the cool treat or the friendly parrots placed on your shoulders. These unexpected moments are the proverbial icing on the cake when it comes to a family vacation, but Dreams Punta Cana also knows how to offer the foundation for a truly successful family vacation, including top-of-the-line service.

When it comes to rolling out the red carpet for their guests, Dreams Punta Cana gets smiley faces all around because the willingness of the staff to accommodate—whether it’s a surprise treat left in the room for a birthday, or a cabana saved for your arrival at the beach—is above and beyond.

In fact, Dreams has really figured out how to create that special “Unlimited Luxury” getaway where mom, dad, the kids—even grandma and grandpa—can be happy. The resort is very family-focused, but even single aunts, uncles and cousins will find the key to their vacation happiness within the resort. Family reunions and weddings—with more than 600 planned this year—are big here for sophisticated travelers who seek a convenient yet upscale vacation experience, says Joan Fernandez, director of sales, Dreams Punta Cana.

unlimited luxury Dreams Punta Cana—a member of Preferred Hotels and Resorts—touts its “Unlimited Luxury” features as the key to standing out among Punta Cana all-inclusive resorts. Virtually everything is included upfront in the price, making for a stress-free stay. You can literally eat and drink all day and night, with all meals, snacks and drinks, plus 24/7 room service. Even the mini-bar in guestrooms is refreshed daily with included sodas and snacks. You also get top shows every night and activities all day long.

The most striking feature of the property is the free-form swimming pool, which winds throughout the middle of the resort and travels the length of it to the beach. It’s a big hub of activities for families, featuring waterfalls, a swim-up bar and volleyball net that plays host to games for adults and families. One area of the pool is dedicated to the pool activities staff and it’s here you’ll find your most active guests enjoying water aerobics and other pool games. It’s also where the music plays loud and adults can hang out with other like-minded adults. The more than 1,300-ft.-long white sand beach, meanwhile, features plenty of room to relax on Punta Cana’s biggest draw.

The 620 guestrooms and suites surround the pool area, allowing for any room location to be a quick walk to the resort amenities. Dreams Punta Cana offers various types of accommodations, but the most popular one is the Deluxe Family Room or the Preferred Club Deluxe Family Room, says Fernandez. These are deluxe king size bedrooms, connected to a deluxe, two double bedroom; both with the same amenities and services and with the benefit of two rooms with a door in the center that could serve as one big room. Guests can either have privacy or open it up to be able to join the rest of the family. For families, this adds up to more room to relax as well. A private balcony or terrace extends the fun outside for taking in Punta Cana’s beautiful weather, while inside, flat-screen TVs, DVD/CD players, Internet access (for a fee), coffee/tea maker and other amenities help keep the kids entertained.

The resort has recently finished the first stage in its room renovations with over 50 percent of the property completed. Renovations are to be completely finished before next winter.
