According to the Acapulco Destination Marketing Office, Acapulco achieved record high hotel occupancy this past December, making it the most successful winter season in the past seven years for the resort city located on Mexico’s Pacific coast. Acapulco reported an average occupancy of 83.5 percent between Dec. 20 and 31, with some hotels reporting rates in excess of 97 percent. The increase in hotel bookings was due, in part, to Acapulco’s entertainment offerings during this period, which included the Mega Feria Mundo Imperial 2015 music concert, a holiday parade and an 8-minute pyrotechnic show on New Year’s Eve—and the industry has begun to take notice. Acapulco already welcomed Oceania Cruises’ Regatta ship earlier this year, and in the months to come, will host major international events, including the Acapulco Pro surfing tournament, the Costa Pacifica Golf & Beach Polo tournament, the Abierto Mexicano de Tenis tournament and the el Rally del Golfo al Pacifico rally race, as well as the Festival Internacional de Cine Acapulco film festival and the Festival Frances de Acapulco, which celebrates the relationship between France and Mexico through art, film, food, fashion and music.
