Since its establishment 65 years ago, Israel has developed into one of the world’s most dynamic travel destinations featuring a unique mix of historic holy sites, a thriving culinary scene, modern amenities and stunning natural landscapes.
With the arrival of the spring season, and daily temperature in the upper 70s, travelers of all tastes and interests can experience the unique festivals boasting art, dance, music and culinary-focused events through the summer in two of Israel’s most popular cities—Tel Aviv and Jerusalem.
Marking the 10-year anniversary of being recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site for its vast collection of Bauhaus architecture, Tel Aviv will host the White City Weekend festival, featuring the “Homes From Within” project and free citywide events from May 2-4.
The “Homes from Within” project offers an insider’s glimpse into some of Tel Aviv’s most stunning and never-before-seen Bauhaus buildings, along with guided tours led by architectural specialists. The White City Weekend festival will also host several art exhibitions, a conference on the preservation of Bauhaus structures and a “guerilla lighting event,” featuring specially commissioned lighting designs projected onto buildings throughout the city.
An annual favorite among travelers and locals alike, the art-centric Israel Festival will feature performances and events by artists from Israel and around the world at various indoor and outdoor event spaces in Jerusalem on May 23 to June 22. Among the acts scheduled to perform at this year’s festival are Staff Benda Bilili—a group of street musicians from the Democratic Republic of the Congo combining rhumba, reggae and R&B music styles—as well as music and theater groups from Asia, Europe, and North and South America.
And following the Israel Festival, the city will host its third annual Jerusalem Season of Culture festival, including dozens of artistic experiences spanning the worlds of music, visual arts, culinary treats, cultural encounters, live art, social interaction, performing arts and new media from July 1 through Aug. 23. Among the festival events scheduled include the In-House Festival (July 1-4), “Contact Point” at the Israel Museum (July 25), “Food Truck” featuring dishes and workshops by Israeli chef Assaf Granit of Machneyuda restaurant (July 17–Aug. 9) and WE: Festi-Conference for Creative Collectives (Aug. 13-15).
