One of the world’s liveliest destinations is now home to the Pestana Plaza Mayor Madrid, part of the Pestana Hotel Group’s Collection brand.

The hotel’s spa features vaulted ceilings.

The new hotel is comprised of two historic buildings—the 17th century Casa de la Carniceria and a long-standing fire station—and pays tribute to its original architecture, with its walls revealing the 400 years of Plaza Mayor’s history and its interiors honoring the work of traditional craftsmen, weavers, carpenters, blacksmiths, and potters.

Pestana Plaza Mayor Madrid, the first hotel in the history of Plaza Mayor, is located in the center of the city, a short walk from the capital’s other major attractions, such as the Cathedral, the Royal Palace, and the famous Puerta del Sol.

The property’s 89 rooms and suites, with almost half facing Plaza Mayor itself, are characterized by imperial-, modern-, and expressionist-inspired decorations and designs. Hotel features that are perfect for relaxing on a typical Spanish summer day include an outdoor pool with views of Madrid’s famed rooftops and domes, and a spa with an indoor pool embraced by traditional vaulted brick ceilings, and a fitness center.

Guests have access to several dining venues, including the RIB | Casa de la Carnicería | Beef & Wine and the Cafeteria on the Plaza Mayor Square, specializing in meat and tapas, respectively. For pre- or post-dinner drinks, guests should head to Coqueteleria, a cocktail bar reminiscent of Madrid’s bohemian years.
